About the Program
The Department of Agricultural Engineering at the Federal University of Viçosa, initially known as the Department of Rural Engineering, was established in 1927. In its early years, the Department was created to serve the undergraduate program in Agronomy. As the field of Agricultural Engineering evolved, the university began training agronomists with a specialization in Agricultural Engineering. Students completed four years of Agronomy, while the fifth year was dedicated to professional courses in Agricultural Engineering. The undergraduate program in Agricultural Engineering, as an independent degree rather than a specialization within Agronomy, began to be offered by the Federal University of Viçosa in 1975.
